Common cause for no password prompts in MSIE

If you are using Microsoft Explorer, we have received many e-mails from new subscribers stating that when they click on the members entrance they see a Failed Authorization Error without ever being given a chance to enter their user id & password.

In each case, this has been due to that members browser being set for "Anonymous Logon". When a browser is configured for anonymous logon, when attempting to enter a password protected directory, it automatically feeds user id "Anonymous" and password "Logon" to that directory. Since that is NOT a valid user id & password to the members area, the preceeding authorization error would indeed result.

To correct this problem, the browser must be switched from Anonymous Logon to Standard Login, doing this will prompt the user for a user id & password when entering a protected directory on a website.

Later versions may vary but should be similar. You will need to look around in the general areas for these settings. here is where you will find these settings:

1)     TOOLS

2)     INTERNET OPTIONS

3)    SECURITY TAB, CLICK ON "INTERNET" ZONE

4)   Check CUSTOM LEVEL

5)   Scroll down to USER AUTHENTICATION, Uncheck ANONYMOUS LOGON, and place a check in AUTOMATIC LOGON

YOu should now be prompted to enter your user id & password when entering the subscribers area.
