Greetings UA Members,
Three cheers to the supreme court for striking down the CDA!!! This is a great victory to
freedom of speech. One that we welcome very much. Had this (Communications Decency Act) as
it was so called been passed, it would have dealt a huge blow to the internet as we know
it.
July is going to be a big month for UA. Our re-mailer is running smoothly. If you are not
aware, now you can use our "Choose an alias" feature and have your mail or post
appear to have come from who ever you choose to be by simply including an alias right on
the remailer form. Its that simple.
You might have noticed today that a new button appeared on the members page called
"Anonymous Surfer". As expected, and mentioned in last months newsletter, we
expect full opertation of our anonymous surfer by the end of July. As always, members will
have unlimited access to it.
Some people have reported that the re-mailer shows up as a blank page when using Netscape
Communicator 4.0. We have not been able to "create" this problem so as we may
resolve it. What we have done, is start development of an entire new interface for the
re-mailer with hopes that this eliminates these reported problems. Also, with the new
interface, will come new features!!
We also started something new this month called Hot New Products. We will attempt to test
and bring to you the results with a link to the appropriate site of a New Privacy Related
Product each month.
As always, we welcome any ideas, products or developments. We are always willing to start a
new page for we still have lots of room on the host server, so keep those feedback forms
coming.
With regards to our new remailer, it has been reported that some members have been
choosing an alias & return address that belongs to a legit person, then posting
incriminating statements in newsgroups that the "real" person frequents. While
we have no control over this type of activity,we want to remind members that this type of
activity is what gets remailers shut down. Up until recently, in the header section we
included our site address so prospective members who liked what they saw could come to our
site and join. We have since removed this header therefor, since the mail is sent through
at least one remailer, it is simply not possible to tell where it came from but please,
consider others before assuming thier Identity using UA’s re-mailer. Our remailer was
designed to provide anonymity with ease not to impersonate legite persons.
Sincerely,
W. A. Moffatt
